SPANKY LOCO INTERVIEW

47M: What's good y’all It's Crisis Magazine. We're in beautiful Las Vegas right now and I'm here with the man, the myth, the legend, Spanky Loco.

SL: OG Spanky Lo, Los Angeles.

47M: Yessir! Born and raised, Los Angeles?

SL: Yeah

47M: Word… I actually seen this David Choe interview with Kat Von D and Prayers and talked about how, especially in South Central LA back in the day, tattooing wasn’t hard like “imma get a tattoo”. It was like a way to say where you’re from and you had to earn those tattoos. Did you have a similar experience?

SL: Yeah, very similar. My tattoos were mainly to identify and like for me, it was about the art. But some homies that didn’t have that love for art, they wanted to get like gang letters and sum to represent where they’re from. That was always prevalent and strong in the tattoo culture from our background. Early beginnings.

47M: It started out as tattooing but when did you start to mix art and music together?

SL: Because of the tattooing, I would draw when I was younger and after doing music for a bit I was like “why am I not merging the two” ya know? The past 6-7 years I’ve been focusing on the art of tattooing a lot more, a lot stronger.

47M: I see you got the brand but I see you now talking to you and it seems like YOU are the brand.

SL: Thank you, I put a lot of design work out and recently it's been more organic. I take a lot of our ideas and designs that have been around for forever. It's the shit you grow up seeing and it's a part of who we are.

47M: I see you shooting for the stars and I think you’re going to go way beyond that, it was great having this talk man.
